Santorini FIRA map location & Travel Information

Fira is the capital of Santorini. About 2000 residents live here and the population is growing a lot in the summer
time. Carefree tourists are to find  all around Fira in the summer wondering in the market and visiting  in the shops.
In Fira you will hear about the famous Gold Street. This street is one with the most Jewelry shops together. FIRA
village overlooks a magnificent caldera atop some 300m of sheer black, red and brown stratified cliffs.
Cruise ships anchor by the dozen in the bay below. The old port, lies directly below FIRA town in water so deep that ship anchor chains won't reach the sea bed. The port is little more than a quayside and visitors don't stay for long
In Fira itself white cube houses and blue-domed churches spill down the terraces in an appealing mish-mash that was extensively rebuilt by cement mixers after an earthquake in 1956. Staggering views of the caldera are offered from the tables of cafes and bars and watching the nightly sunset is a very popular, if very expensive, pastime. Today, Fira is a modern place, with a huge selection of hotels, restaurants, shops, cafes, bars and clubs to satisfy almost all likings and needs. The main square is Plateia Theotokopoulou where many people meet before going out at night.
Here is also the centre of all buses and taxis. The visit to the picturesque market of Fira is a pleasant walk where you may notice the cobbled with the black lava stone streets. From here, you can have a tour by boat to the volcano of Nea and Palia Kameni. To reach the harbour you may carried by a donkey or use the cable railroad (teleferic).
